| Biography: | During the 1960's, Karel Jancar, an engineering student travelled around Czechoslavakia learning songs, dances and music from people who lived in different parts of the country. Mr Jancar plays the fiddle. After emigrating to Australia, he and other Czech migrants set up a Czech traditional music ensemble called 'Beseda'. They played for and taught traditional dances to young people mostly of Czech origin. The band met in a restaurant off Lonsdale Street in Melbourne on weekday evenings. At concerts and other gatherings the young people appeared in national costume.
