Summary:"... exhibition of works by Iraqi artist and local Liverpool resident, Faisal Al-Saadi. A painter, sculptor and jeweller, Faisal Al-Saadi's first exhibition in Australia gives us the opportunity to experience works that present a yearning for peace, warning against political persecution and the violence of tyrants. Not surprising given his background: born into a Mandaean family in Iraq in 1939, Faisal suffered imprisonment in his home country before being forced into exile abroad. Through his losses he paints metaphors that symbolise hope and strength for cultural survival. His resilience is found in the memory of home, in the landscapes of Iraq, in the ruins of his histories both past and present. "--Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre website.
