E. J. Banfield was an author, journalist and naturalist. He worked for a number of Australian newspapers including the Melbourne Age. He and his wife (Bertha Golding) lived on Dunk Island from 1897 and were mostly self sufficient. He continued to contribute to a number of newspapers and write a number of books including "The confessions of a beachcomber".

- Condition : fair, quite faded.
- Inscriptions : 1. Make 6" deep 4" wide with thin border line on rough proof of smaller block herewith & same screen. Do not touch the original, but clean up the plate keeping the soft effect" --in pencil on reverse. "For Angus & Robertson Limited" --printed on reverse. 2. "For title only, Mr and Mrs Banfield at home" --in pencil and print.
