Schoolteacher, writer and anti-nuclear campaigner. Ellen Dymphna (Nell) Cusack was born at Wyalong, New South Wales in 1902. She was educated at St Ursula's College, Armidale and graduated from the University of Sydney with an honours degree in history and philosophy. She worked as a teacher until she retired in 1944 for health reasons. Cusack became president of the Fellowship of Australian Writers in 1968-1969. In 1981 she was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her contribution to Australian literature. Cusack died at Manly, Sydney in 1981.
