Reid, a journalist, begins by providing brief background information on his early life. He then talks about the role of journalists which he sees as being that of reporters and interpreters. Reid then discusses the influence he enjoyed amongst other journalists; working with Rupert Henderson and Sir Frank Packer and the danger that he believes TV can be to democracy. He then gives his views on the ABC and other commercial stations and their handling of news items. Reid then discusses Menzies as a politician. He then describes the role of journalists as one of revelation and warns of the danger of trial by media as well as discussing the pressure there is on the media to produce stories.
