Que Noy, carrier and WWII veteran, speaks of his early life in Pine Creek, N.T.; how his family came to Australia in the 1880s; the family moving to Darwin, N.T. to complete the children's education; Old Chinatown and the Chinese community of Darwin; leaving school at 13 to work in a tailor store, general store & cooking in the family's bakery shop; acquiring a truck & working for a woodmill; joining the Army in 1941 as a driver carrying supplies; being transferred to Broadmeadows, Vic. to repair trucks in a workshop; his Army transfer to Borneo to help build a wharf; while in Borneo meeting local Chinese people on plantations or working as goldsmiths.
Que Noy speaks of his return to his family in Darwin after 5 years; how they had since started a market garden at the Darwin River; spending 15 years working with a truck owner distributing supplies from Darwin wharf and his involvement in the Darwin Truck Owners Association; joining the Dept. of Works, maintaining the roads; how his children have settled in the south; the social life of the Chinese community in the Northern Territory; old Chinese men who had told 'hard stories' about their lives; driving the all the way from Darwin to Melbourne in the 1970s with his wife.
