Wilson speaks about his employment in the New South Wales Department of Child Welfare where he dealt with cases of abuse and neglect. He was a district officer in Sydney from 1962 and in 1968 was appointed as Resident District Officer in Wellington. He outlines his role, contrasts the attitudes toward Aboriginal people of the Aborigines Welfare Board and the Department of Child Welfare, and talks about relations between the white community and residents of the nearby Nanima Aboriginal Reserve. Wilson was the Regional Director, Dubbo from 1981 to 1986 and his area of responsibility included the Aboriginal communities at Lithgow, West Wyalong, Gunnedah and Broken Hill. He talks about the changes in policy which resulted in less Aboriginal children being removed from their families.
