- Biography/History:

Wilfred D. Borrie was born in 1913 in New Zealand. Attended Otago University, taking M.A. in history. Researched migration and settlement of New Zealand, then left for a year in Cambridge. Returned to New Zealand, married and moved to Sydney in 1941 to teach at Knox Grammar School. Began working for R.C. Mills at University of Sydney, concentrating on immigration and population matters. Studied at London School of Economics with David Glass then moved to ANU in Canberra in 1950. Set up demography department in 1952.
