The papers in MS 9862 were mostly accumulated in the last thirty years of A.P. Fleming's life and comprise correspondence, personal documents, notes, official papers, speeches, newspaper cuttings, photographs and publications. They deal with journalism, military campaigns in the Middle East and New Guinea, espionage, security, terrorism, international trade, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Library and the National Library of Australia.
The correspondents include Sir John McEwen, Sir Magnus Cormack, Sir Frank Berryman, H. Phillip Braddock, John Balfe, Roland Griffiths-Marsh, David Horner, Des Ball, Sir Harold White, Harold Williams, Bjorn Tell, Jean Whyte, Hillas Maclean, Warren Horton, Peirre Hutton, Niel Manton and Peter Ryan (25 boxes, 1 fol. item).
- Biography/History:

Journalist, soldier, public servant and librarian. Allan Percy Fleming was a reporter on the Argus and Courier-mail, before enlisting in the Australian Army in 1939. He served in the Middle East, Greece, North Africa and the Pacific. He joined the Department of Defence in 1947, was trade commissioner in Paris from 1959-1962 and then worked in the Department of Trade and Industry. He was appointed Commonwealth Parliamentary Librarian in 1968 and was the National Librarian from 1970-1973. Fleming died in Melbourne on 18 January 2001.
