- Biography/History:

Lawyer. Ian Douglas Temby was born in Perth, Western Australia, in 1942. He was admitted to legal practice in 1966 and worked for Perth law firm Northmore Hale Davey and Leake where he became a partner in 1968. In 1972, he co-founded the Legal Advice Bureau. He took silk in 1980 and started private legal practice in Perth. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1980, and, in 1984, became the first Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. In 1988, he was appointed the first commissioner of the New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption, a position he held until 1994 when he resumed private practice in Sydney. He is a past president of the Law Society of Western Australia, and of the Law Council of Australia. In 2004, Temby was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for service to the law.
