Dowse, writer, talks about coming to Australia from America in 1958 and adjusting to the Australian way of life. She talks about combining motherhood with doing a degree at Sydney University, coming to Canberra in the 1960's and working as the Canberra field editor for the publishing firm Thomas Nelson. In 1974 she headed the Office of Women's Affairs, Dept. Of Prime Minister and Cabinet and resigned in 1977. Dowse discusses some of her works such as "West Block", "Sapphires", "Silver City" and "Schemetime", her membership of Seven Writers and working as an interviewer for the National Library's Oral History Program and as an interviewer of people in the publishing world. She also talks about her political experiences, her Jewish background, difficulties in working at home as a writer and her current work.
