Eve Langley, novelist, born in Forbes on Sept. 1, 1908, was educated at Forbes State High School, working later as a proofreader and freelance writer in Sydney before taking a position with the Auckland Public Library in 1950. She wrote several novels, notably the Pea Pickers (1942) and White Topee (1954), eventually retiring to live an eccentric existence in her isolated shack, Iona-Lympus, in the Blue Mountains, where she died in early June 1974.
