Barrett Reid, writer and editor, speaks of some cases of censorship in his lifetime, called as a witness for the defence of Ron Upton in 1966 who supposedly had sculpted an obscene piece of art, constant struggle to have so called "hot stuff" books back on shelves when he was a local librarian, action taken by Catholic Action and complaints made to the police about obscene literature, founding the "Literary Journal", printer Bob Cugley who printed "Angry Penguins" which was tried for obscenity, involvement in putting on theatre and literary magazines art shows, in his youth editing "Barjai" and creating his own group called "Near Studio Miya".

Barrett Reid was born in 1926. While an adolescent, he edited "Barjai", a young adult literature magazine. As a writer and printer he was constantly prepared to fight any forces, either men or organisations, that wanted to censor books, magazines or work of art. He died in 1995.
