Pitt, a feature strip artist, speaks of his childhood in Roselle, Sydney, the eldest of 9 children, how he learnt to draw on school blackboards using chalk though there were no art lessons, who had artistic ability in his family, he left school in 1937, loved the movies and by talking to the projectio nist was offered a job by the cinema boss, how he came to devise his first comic strip, Larry Flynn, Detective, later published Yarmac as a Tarzan-type comic strip, his move into commercial advertising at 15 using comic characters to promote Colgate toothpaste, how the lack of photogravure printing in Sydney publishing houses in the 1940's prevented him from producing colour comics until the Sun introduced such a press, how he was inspired by Alex Raymond's example of switching from a pen to a brush.
