Handwritten manuscripts of Stewart's poems, novels, plays and songs. Thirty five of his works have been published in his 'Poems and plays' : Melbourne, McCarron Bird & Co, 1894. Includes the draft of 'The rose & thorn of forest villa', which was published in Melbourne by Pater & Knapton, 1895, and unpublished works, such as his 557 page novel 'Ungodly man', a Westralian goldfields story.

Novelist, playright and poet, Hubert Stewart worked in Melbourne in the late 1800's. His poem 'Beaten ways' was written on the Murray River. He made his way to the West in 1900, and then to the Eastern Goldfields, where he wrote 'Ungodly man' in 1902, based on the area around Coolgardie.
