MS 5925 comprises correspondence, including personal and family letters dating from 1908; manuscripts, including a "Mafeking Diary" by Greener's father about the Boer War; archaeological papers; papers on Tasmanian history and monuments especially the Ross Bridge; lectures, talks, A.B.C. scripts, autobiographical material, financial papers, notebooks, diaries and photographs. Also a manuscript by George Dibbern entitled Ship without port (15 archive boxes).
The Acc13.041 instalment comprises two volumes of illustrations and text on two sets of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Leslie Greener was one of the artists in both volumes. The two volumes are entitled: The eastern high gate with translations of texts by the Epigraphic Survey (Medinet Habu Volume VIII), University of Chicago Press, 1970 and The Beit el-Wali Temple of Ramesses II (Oriental Institute Nubian Expedition Volume I), by Herbert Ricke, George R. Hughes and Edward F. Wente, University of Chicago, 1967 (1 fol. box).
- Biography/History:

Herbert Leslie Greener, teacher, journalist, archaeologist and artist, was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1900. He was educated in England and served in India after graduating from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was also prisoner of war in Japan. He was involved in several archaeological expeditions in Egypt, and participated in the removal of the monuments in Nubia to make way for the Aswan Dam. His first wife was artist Rhona Hazzard.
