MS 6609 consists of material relating to the British Empire Service League, Soldier Settlement Schemes, Australian Forces Overseas Fund, Australian War Memorial, War Graves Commission and the Gallipoli Pilgrimage, comprising an extensive collection of records formerly held by the National Secretariat of the League. The records include a very large series of numbered files, commencing in 1916, general correspondence, minutes of the Central Council and executive, papers on congresses and conferences, subject files, financial records, circulars, material relating to State branches, press cuttings, publications and photographs (1132 boxes, 1 carton, 6 fol. boxes).
The Acc04.052 instalment comprises further Returned Services League of Australia records, 1993-1997 (185 boxes).

The Returned Services League of Australia was formed in 1916 as the Returned Sailors' and Soldiers' Imperial League of Australia to protect the welfare of ex-servicemen and women and their families. It changed its name to Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmens' Imperial League of Australia in 1940 and adopted its present name Returned Services League of Australia (R.S.L.) in 1965.
