Collection of slides of Papuan sing-sings, visit of HRH Prince Philip to Lae in 1956, Qantas aircraft, Port Moresby, Port Moresby World War II memorials and Lae War Cemetery.
PIC/8484/1-12: "Port Moresby had quite a large harbour with ships of the Burns Philp and Steamships companies being the main users. Qantas operated Catalina flying boats on the harbour. The town was situated on a flat area between two large hills. On the sea side was Ela Beach, a very popular place to swim."--Tom Meigan.
PIC/8484/49-63: "A sing-sing or native dance was always held on the 26th of December on the Old Football Oval in Lae. There generally were thousands of natives done up in bird of paradise plumage, colour beyond imagination, lots of betel nut chewing, occasional outbursts of fighting to settle old scores, police boys wading in with hefty wallops. Everyone had a good day and looked forward to the next one."--Tom Meigan.
