MS 5185 comprises drafts of A refined look at existence and other plays, poems and essays, photographs, some correspondence, catalogues, loose newspaper clippings and three albums of newspaper clippings and programs. There are also typescripts, drafts of Incident at Nolava Beach and A golden pathway to Europe, a notebook, printed matter, catalogues and photographs (8 boxes).
The Acc00.200 instalment comprises colour photographs of paintings, slides, versions of the play Archibald Prize, a copy of the play Imperfections and other papers (1 fol. box).
- Biography/History:

Artist, poet, and playwright. Rodney Armour Milgate was born in 1934. Milgate established himself as a painter and became a major figure in Australian art. He has held over forty solo exhibitions and his artwork is represented throughout Australia, the United Kingdom and United States. Described as both reflective and philosophical, Milgate's art often explores themes of spirituality. He has won the Blake Prize for Religious Art three times. An early recipient of the Harkness Fellowhip Award, he won the D'Arcy Morris Award in 1970. As a poet and playwright, he has had verse published widely and his play, A refined look at existence, was first produced in Sydney in October 1966. Other literary works include Fourteen stations of the cross: interpretations of a sacred myth: a sequence of poems accompanying fourteen paintings (1991), and Archibald Prize, the play: a stage play in two acts (1996).
