Sir Reginald Swartz speaks of his family background and education ; the Gold Coast in the 1920s and 30s ; living through the Depression ; his marriage, children and military career ; the Second World War ; the beginnings of his political activities and his campaign for Darling Downs (1949). Topics covered concerning his time in politics include: His time as a backbencher ; the influence of Liberal Party meetings on policy ; concern over Britain's entry to EEC ; about Menzies running party meetings ; Toowoomba and achievements for that city ; his views on the Vietnam War ; his work in Parliament on commerce, trade and agriculture ; Ministry portfolios held ; the Liberal Party's method of choosing ministers ; his attitude to Medibank and Medicare; he describes how Cabinet works ; federalism vs. centralism ; his KBE awarded in 1972 ; his feelings on Labor win in 1972 and on the Whitlam government ; the Labor fall in 1975 ; his assessment of the Bjelke-Petersen, Fraser and Hawke governments ; his views on uranium mining ; his activities since retirement.

Sir Reginald held the seat of Darling Downs Qld. for the Liberal Party from December 1949 to November 1972. He held the portfolis of Repatriation, Social Services, Health and Civil Aviation.
