- Summary:
-
"Entrance gate, Birrigai Centre at 1952 hrs, 17:01:2003. As Extreme fire weather developed throughout the afternoon of 17th January 2003, the Bendora fire broke containment lines in the Warks Camp area (3km east of Bulls Head) and burnt strongly towards the Cotter River while a free burning flank in Brindabella Creek intensified on an upslope run towards the Mount Franklin Road near Picadilly Circus and commenced spotting to the east. These major runs placed spot fires near the Cotter River and on the western slopes of the Tidbinbilla Range. The aerial ignition of remote fuels in the McIntyres Hut fire produced very intense burning on steep terrain that resulted in spotfires igniting outside the eastern control lines in the Dingo Dell area that burnt strongly overnight towards the ACT border and Uriarra Forest"--Note from the photographer.
