- This incomplete world map is a non-photographic and incomplete facsimile reproduction drawn by E. Rembielinski of the original 1546 map by Pierre Desceliers. The original held by the British Museum was reconstructed in 1877 made up of 15 separate sections, and the almost obliterated inscription in the top left corner was deciphered as "Faictes à Arques par Pierre Desceliers presbe 1546". Australia appears here as an outcrop from La Terre Australie reaching up almost to Borne [i.e. Borneo] and thus called Iava La Grande, depicted with lions and other fanciful inhabitants. Iava Petite [presumably Java] is only very narrowly separated from Iava La Grande. Another sheet shows South America almost conjoined to La Terre Australie and part of Africa. Another sheet is oriented with the north at the bottom of the sheet showing Europe on the left side and North America on the right side. Another sheet also oriented with north at the bottom shows on the right the continent as Asie [i.e. Asia] with a large island to the east Zipangri [i.e. Japan]. Relief is shown pictorially.
