Madge Witchard, born 1916, in Kempsey, NSW, talks about early life at Hickey's Creek; the cedar industry in Hickey's Creek area; washing day; diet in the bush; sharing fresh meat around the neighbours due to no refrigeration; life in a family of fourteen; bullock driving; early school days, walking to school; bush remedies; little sickness due to isolation and healthy climate; trips into town; school games, rounders, hopscotch; her sister Ivy, a poet - 'The Babbling Brook'; her father being a musician, playing for dances in the area; father singing a lot of old songs; dances in the area, Bellbrook; the dances done, Lancers, varsovienna, schottische; MC's at the dances; women riding side saddle; musicians playing at Bellbrook; practical jokes at Bellbrook. Vaughan Kyle tells a stories about a cripple scaring bulls, mustering cattle and characters at Willawarrin. Madge Witchard recalls her early life after school; Billy Kyle; Dave Kirkpatrick; life in the Nulla as a young woman; dances further up the valley; her family.
