Marnie (Margaret Mary) Kennedy born 2 December 1927 at Marrickville, N.S.W. daughter of Dr John Araluen Kennedy. Both her parents were devout Catholics of Irish descent. Her brother was Fr Ted Kennedy. Educated at the Ursuline Convent, Ashbury, Rose Bay convent and the University of Sydney. In 1948 she became a teacher in the Religious Order of the Sacred Heart, completing a Diploma of Education from the University of Armidale. In 1956 she took her final vows in Rome. From 1965-74 she became Superior of Rose Bay Convent and other convents of her Order in Australia and New Zealand. She was the first woman to become part of a Jesuit team at Canisius College Pymble, Sydney. In the 1970s she joined her brother Ted in his work with the Aboriginal community in Redfern, NSW, and still continues this following his death in 2005.
