Scrapbook of theatrical, social events occurring in Sydney and concentrating on the period 1890-1902. Includes ill. of streets and buildings of Sydney as well as caricatures of its citizens, some by Phil May. Primary focus is on the Australian involvement in, and contingents to the Boer War supported by many ports. of Australian and British defence personnel. Some material from the solicitor Frank E. Wallace and his legal practice with various Chinese businesses including various legal notices and cases conducted by him. Unusual ephemera include the "British Square" an emblem of British Empire unity; one card entitled "Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Xmas 1915, Gallipoli Peninsula"; subscription certificate to the NSW Patriotic Fund; proposed Commonwealth flag, 1895; several colour postcards of the Boer War victory parades in London; and Chinese pak-a-pu lottery tickets. Many portraits of actors, entrepeneurs and illustrations of scenes from various plays. A potpourri of the compiler's interests particularly his involvement with theatre being a Committee member of the Lyceum Theatre.
