-
"Reckless had won the Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane cups and the 73-year-old trainer liked the stallion's chances in the 1977 Melbourne Cup. Horse and trainer died within months of each other in 1985. Tommy Woodcock holds a special place in Australian racing. He was strapper to the mighty Phar Lap in 1930 when the great horse won the Melbourne Cup, and Phar Lap died in his arms while overseas in 1932"--Information supplied by photographer.
