Vera Fooks, born 1911 in rural Qld. talks about her siblings and being orphaned at the age of four; living with an aunt and uncle for five years; the ill treatment received from her uncle; being taken to St Vincent's Orphanage, Brisbane (aged nine); being separated from her brother and sister for five years, their lives, being sent out to work aged fourteen; Sisters of Mercy nuns; orphanage conditions, chores, schooling, routines, food; her return visits to the orphanage as an adult; childhood friendships; being removed from the orphanage by her married sister at the age of thirteen; working as a housemaid; her adult life, marrying, her two children; living in a tent for seven years through WWII; losing contact with her sister and brother; writing her autobiography; joining CLAN (Care Leavers Australia); the Prime Minister's National Apology.
