MS Acc10.009 comprises family photographs; extensive family correspondence including letters to Hay's parents from school, Oxford University, war service and diplomatic posts; ephemera; family history materials; papers on the purchase and restoration of Boomanoomana; diaries and appointment books; papers and photographs relating to diplomatic postings and public service appointments including Bangkok, Ottawa, the United Nations, and Papua New Guinea; press clippings from all aspects of Hay's life; and, a draft autobiography (37 boxes, 2 fol. boxes).

Diplomat, soldier and public servant. Sir David Hay served as a member of the Australian diplomatic service and was one of the key figures in the administration of the Territory of Papua New Guinea until that country became self-governing on 1 December, 1973.
