MS 6730 comprises sundry financial records and correspondence for the period 1971-1974, including some letters by John B. Snell, a stud farmer who was related to a stud-pioneering family; photographs of Hampshire Down sheep belonging to the Cotton family, 1957 (1 v.); jottings "Notes for this year", undated; other brief notes about family activities at Oberon; and, telephone and address book. The collection includes financial statements for Carrington Park and Oberon Estates Pty Ltd including details of farming and grazing interests (1 v.); balance sheets and financial records of Oberon Estates Pty Ltd, Elworthy and Cotton Timber Industries Ltd., and Cotton's Pty Ltd (1 v.). There are also briefing notes and reports from overseas visits carried out as an official Australian government representative in Nauru, Japan, Tonga, Western Samoa and Papua New Guinea, 1977-1981 (24 boxes, 8 fol. boxes).
- Biography/History:

Livestock breeder, politican and diplomat. Robert Carrington Cotton was born at Broken Hill, New South Wales in 1915 and educated at St Peter's College, Adelaide. During his political career Cotton was Minister for Civil Aviation from 1969-1972 and Minister for Industry and Commerce, 1975-1977. He was state president of the Liberal Party of New South Wales from 1957-1960. Cotton was also federal vice-president of the Liberal Party. He retired from politics in 1978 and in the same year became Consul-General of Australia at New York. He was appointed ambassador to the United States in 1982-1985. Throughout his career Cotton was also a director of various companies, a qualified accountant, involved in the timber industry and a breeder of Hampshire Down sheep in New South Wales. He was knighted in 1977 and made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1993. Cotton died in Sydney in 2006.
