Beverly Knight became the first female member of an AFL club board (Essendon) in 1993. She was Director of AFL Sportsready in 1995-2009, overseeing the development of the company to train professional young men and women in all aspects of sport, Australia wide. She is a longtime supporter of Indigenous artists and established Alcaston Gallery in Fitzroy, Melbourne to promote Indigenous art works by living artists.
