Greg Luton talks about family history, Grandfather was a shearer who bought land at Shannons Flat, NSW and built house, Muzzlebrook, 1920; his son Morris, did a lot of ringbarking and land clearing carried on by his sons Greg and Noel in the 1940s with tractors; Greg’s father Morris born at Muzzlebrook, married Frances Clugston 1930 and lived at Rosevue house; built the Shannons Flat Hall and was a community leader; Shannons Flat school, teachers and other families in the area, first job, rabbit trapping; life at Muzzlebrook, parents, siblings Noel and Ruth, camping holidays and tennis, domestic life without mains power, driving his father’s car, rabbit trapping and myxomatosis, ripping rabbit warrens; driving to Cooma for supplies; describes old Dick Brayshaw’s life and house on Bobeyan; Morris bought Bobeyan from Dick Brayshaw for Noel and Greg; death of grandparents; Noel living in Muzzlebrook; making improvements to Bobeyan; clearing the land, advent of chainsaws; Dick Brayshaw’s death at Rosevue; speaks of Crawford family and graves at Bobeyan.
Bobeyan was to become part of Gudgenby Nature Reserve so Lutons stopped improvements; fought government for fairer valuation; talks of feral animals, wildlife, public access to park; vandalism to Boboyan homestead. Greg bought land at Adaminaby to replace Boboyan; speaks about changes in snowfalls and skiing and climate changes, bushfires, building fire trails and back burning; fire fighting and fuel reduction; changes in environmental attitudes leading to increased numbers of kangaroos, wombats and feral pigs; talks about native birds and animals and enjoying the rural life; his uncle Ron Clugston being a good skier and musician and teaching Greg to play button accordion and piano, he played with Jimmy Crawford, Gerald Giddings and Alan Gottaas at dances, still plays at Adaminaby musical events; marrying Judy Williams 1970 and their two children; building Talbaray, his son Peter working on the property; the loss of his wife in 1995; farm life, communications, Adaminaby.
