Charlie Edgar born 1936 in Charters Towers, Qld. talks about growing up and being educated in Pentland, Qld.; his first job working in a droving camp; droving trips, mentioning numbers and breeds of cattle; working mainly as a horse tailer and cook; members of camp and cattle rushes at night; Aboriginal workers; later working with horses at a meat works and droving horses; horse rush at night; between 1952-55 worked breaking in horses; how he worked as a head stockman close to the Gulf of Carpentaria; breaking in different breeds of horses and names good horsemen; comments on Aboriginal horsemen; Queensland and Northern Territory ringers; comments on the transition of mustering with horses to helicopters; horses are still necessary and pilots should have experience as ringers; the problems tailing weaners, he explains the term 'weaner' and discusses when cattle should be weaned.
Edgar discusses other places where he has been employed over his career, naming various employees and co-workers; he then talks about contract mustering; camp cooks; good head stockmen; horse whisperers and breaking in horses; injuries on droving trips; ringers in the past having great pride in the job; the differences between old Australian saddles and American style saddles being used in modern times; rodeos in Australia or 'bushman's carnivals'; his retirement, but continuing to work occasionally in camps; story about being injured by a bull; after injury, worked as a bull-catcher using helicopters and vehicles; catching bulls and getting them into a truck; describes the mechanical bull-catcher; the Bradshaw homestead and its history; working conditions at Bradshaw; an incident with a mare and worker being injured by a bull; 'Mulliga' Aboriginal term for boss; talks about an Aboriginal co-worker.
