Grills, actor and comedian, recalls his family background; his first engagement at the Sydney Tivoli Theatre at age 20; tells how the name Lucky came into being; Dick Fairs Australian Amateur Hour; formation of Tex & Lucky, the hilarious hillbillies; performing in the Sydney nightclub circuit & variety shows in the 1950s-1960s; Hellzapoppin (show); Celebrity Club on parade (show); numerous artists & comedians he had worked with; various tent shows (1950s-1960s); managing & touring with Ashtons Varieties; on tour in Korea (1953); Copacabana Club; floor shows at Chequers Night Club; his performances at the Currumbin Playroom (night club); the concept & routine of his show at the Coolangatta Hotel (Qld.); establishment of Carols Varieties (sold in 1965); entering television on the Reg Lindsay show in 1966; the Lucky Grills and Sunny Sanders act.
Grills recalls his participation in an official entertainment tour of Vietnam in 1967 & 1969; touring the East (1969), London (1969), South Africa for 9 months (1969-1970?); his lead role in Bluey (Television series) which achieved worldwide success; working the cruise ships, starting in 1983; his acting techniques; his second tour of England commencing at The Montrose Club (1980s); different managing styles of theatrical agents. Grills comments on comedians who had made an impression on him; his ideas on writing comedy, songs & poetry; writing & performing comedy with reference to particular types of laughs; the MO Awards.
