- Summary:
-
A unique artist's tunnel book made with intricate papercuts. Subtle watercolour washes on the back of each panel give an added impression of depth when the book is illuminated from below. Most of the artist's tunnel books illustrate Japanese folk tales or ghost stories, but this book was inspired by a story called Town of Cats in Haruki Murakami's 1Q84, in which the protagonist is trapped in a town occupied by cats. This led the artist to imagine what it would be like if these cats had their own festival, although she could equally well have illustrated any one of a number of Japanese folktales that involve cats dancing at festivals.
