- Summary:
-
Board game protoype with Australian Aboriginal theme, designed and made by Bryan Satalino as a course requirement towards a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in design at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia. Inspired by Bruce Chatwin's book "Songlines", the game mechanics are influenced by recent modern boardgames such as "Settlers of Catan" and "Ticket to Ride".
- Notes:
-
- Board game.
- "Nuramuru literally means "earth track" in many of the Aboriginal dialects still spoken today. Travelling their land without maps, Indigenous Australians created a series of songs based on the contours of the land. The songs defy language, and are aural representations of the landscape. Knowlegeable Aboriginals could navigate very great distances with accuracy by singing the landscape. Nuramuru allows players to explore the continent of Australia, expand their territories through strategic game play, and become educated about the rich history and culture of Aboriginal people."--Inner box tray.
- "Nuramuru pits four players against each other in a race to explore the country of Australia. Players must explore territory and collect point cards to [be the] first to 75 points and win."--Instruction booklet.
- Box, made of plywood, is hand-finished and painted. Inner structure is made of foam board layers, wrapped with printed paper. Cards are double-sided. Instruction booklet bound by hand. Game pieces are differently-shaped stained pieces of wood, cut by hand using a Japanese back saw, and housed in 4 drawstring bags.
- Contains board map of Australia (41 x 51 cm - printed on paper and applied to underside of top of box), 160 game pieces (40 of each team's shape - circle, triangle, square and hill), 60 terrain cards (20 desert cards, 15 forest cards, 10 mountain cards, 5 water cards, 10 all terrain cards), 20 Sacred Site cards, 8 Songline cards, 8 scoring dials, instruction booklet.
