- This book was privately published by Patrick White's mother in either 1929 or 1930 and was compiled from poems he had written while at Cheltenham College in England.
- National Library's RBRS N copy is a presentation copy inscribed in ink by the author: "To Betty, with apologies from Paddy", accompanied by two unpublished typescript poems, 'Gloria Mundi' (n.d.) and 'Winter Pastoral' (2.xii.29), both on Croxley Extra Strong Bank paper (water marked). Of the known copies, this is the only one that bears an inscription from the poet.

- Source of Acquisition:
- National Library's copy was given by Patrick White to his cousin and mentor, Betty Withycombe. Elizabeth Gidley Withycombe was the daughter of Ruth White's cousin, Jack Withycombe and his wife Ellen. After White travelled to England at the age of 13 he became close to the Withycombes who were the only artists in the family. These poems were written between the years 1927-29 when White was 15-17 years of age. David Marr in his book Patrick White: a life, states that Betty Withycombe was the first person, apart from his mother, to encourage White to write.
