- Summary:
-
Labyrinth Press was established in 1980 by Thierry Bouchard and Petr Herel. From 1980 until 2007, twenty-one titles were published, and are noted in this bibliography. With only a few exceptions, the typography was typeset and letterpress printed by Thierry Bouchard in Saint-Jean-de-Losne, France, and the etchings and graphic work were by Petr Herel. The book's poetic content and editorial philosophy were based on the co-founder's affinities and were often published in multilingual original translations. The Labyrinth Press ceased activity in 2008 with the passing of Thierry Bouchard.-Based on the introductory note by Petr Herel, April 2013.
The textual content of this book makes it a simple informational title, elegantly typeset by Phil Day in the Uncollected Works Press house style, which provides a brief bibliographical description of the twenty-one Labyrinth Press titles published by Thierry Bouchard and Petr Herel from 1980 until 2007. It is nevertheless illustrated with four very small colour intaglio prints that take up the theme of labyrinths, some of them more or less abstracted from one which more clearly depicts a bull. A small outline image of a labyrinth, similar in design to those that appeared in many of the presses' books, is embossed into the cover, bisected by a vertical line which suggests the dagger symbol often printed adjacent to a name in order to signify that the person is deceased.
