Sir Laurence McIntyre served for 40 years in the Commonwealth Public Service, 35 of which was served in the diplomatic service. He was Deputy Secretary to the Dept. of External Affairs from 1965-1970 and was Ambassador to Indonesia and Japan. He retired from foreign service after 5 years as Australian Ambassador to the United Nations.
