Stirling speaks about being taken as a baby to The Bungalow, Alice Springs and conditions at the Home. Stirling's mother worked at The Bungalow, but died when he was around age 10. His baby sister was also removed but they were eventually reunited in 1989. During World War II, the children at The Bungalow were evacuated and he was sent to Mulgoa, near Sydney. Stirling attended school at Wallacia and Penrith, before going on to teachers college. His first teaching job was at Burnt Bridge, near Kempsey, and he talks about the attitudes towards Aboriginals in Kempsey. Stirling taught around the Kempsey area over the period 1950-72, before being appointed Principal at Crescent Heads. He describes the way he felt when he spoke for the first time of his removal at the 'Stolen Generation' 2001 Conference in Adelaide.
