G.D Osborne (1899-1955) was a geologist and an academic. In the early 1920's, Osborne conducted extensive geological fieldwork of the Hunter River Region. Against popular thought at the time, he discovered that the Carboniferous and Permian rock strata was not separated by an unconformity but by a steep overthrust fault, which he coined, 'the Hunter overthurst' It was this 145km of mapping and identifying of this major feature in the Hunter that lead to Osborne's credentials as a significant structural geologist in Australia. He later published work on the stratigraphical and structural synthesis on the region. Further biographical information at https://nla.gov.au/nla.party-566029
