Wewak, New Guinea, C 1939. The De Havilland DH-89 Dragon Rapide aircraft operated by the Wewak Air Transport Co. loading passengers at the Wewak airfield. This aircraft was strafed by Japanese aircraft on the ground at Salamaua on 1942-02-21 and destroyed. The pilot, Kevin Parer, was also killed in the attack. The little boy in the pedal car is Darrell Coomber, the son of Arthur Coomber, the Wewak District Patrol Officer. (Donor B.E. Coomber)
