This photograph gives a fine view of the southern abutment of the bridge and the approach thereto on the date mentioned. The first sections of the first frame of the arch are in position, together with the sloping steel ways on which the "creeper cranes" were installed in order to enable them to travel gradually towards the centre of the arch as the work progressed. The abutments were subsequently carried upwards as pylons, and the whole faced with Moruya granite. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
