THE LANDING AT ANZAC COVE.—At down on April 25, 1915, British, French, Australian, and New Zealand Divisions landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula where they remained for eight months, during which time the Australians lost 8,587 killed and 19,367 wounded. The photograph on the left shows the Australian Divisional Headquarters staff wading ashore on the first day of the landing. The officer with the spade is thought to be Colonel (now Brigadier-General) C. H. Fott. On the right is shown a parly of officers going ashore on the same day with whatever kit they could carry. Included in the party are (left to right):—Lieutenant-Colonel W. H. Marshall, Colonel Hobbs (now Lieutenant-General Sir J. Talbot Hobbs), Major (now Lieutenant-Colonel) E. J. H.
