  2. Grim Wreckage Left in Wake of Bushfires at Beaumaris

    RESIDENTS OF BEAUMARIS WERE STILL SEARCHING YESTERDAY IN RUINS OF HOMES burnt out by Friday's shrub and grass fires. Left: Mr L. J. F. Kent (occupier of property in background) and Mr D. J. Green, whose home was burnt to the ground, spent yesterday helping each other to search among the debris for anything not completely burnt. The only thing Mr Green found not burnt to a cinder was the enamel dish, which he is holding, out of the electric refrigerator. Right: Pte A. C. Cronin lost everything he possessed. He was at Army HQ when fire broke out, and rushing home found everything gone—his car and trailer, house, wireless, and £15 in notes. He is now living in a lean-to nearby. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
