Immediate Source of Acquisition

The papers of J.A. Alexander were donated to the Library in 1944.

The Oral History Section holds a recording and transcript of a 1977 autobiographical interview at ORAL TRC 578, and an earlier 1971 interview at ORAL TRC 121/10 in which he discusses news events.

The Library also holds In the shadow : three years in Moscow and The life of George Chaffey : a story of irrigation beginnings in California and Australia, both written by Alexander. The 1949-1950 edition of Australiathe Herald year book, and the 10th edition of Who's who in Australia : incorporating John's Notable Australians were both edited by him and are held in the Australian collection.
