Scope and Contents
The records comprise correspondence and subject files kept by various office holders of IAML from the period leading to its inception in 1970 up to 2000; treasury records; and membership records.
The records from the earlier deposit were largely kept by Prue Neidorf (President to 1988), Werner Gallusser (Secretary 1970-1975), and Ian Miller (Secretary 1975-1978). The later deposit, received in 2004, consists of records that appear to have been assembled and arranged by a number of office bearers from 1975-2000.

Administrative History
The International Association of Music Libraries Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML) was founded in 1951 to promote international cooperation and to support the interests of the profession. It now has national branches in 22 countries, numerous professional branches, subject commissions and working groups, and is responsible for several large-scale documentation projects. The international body holds an annual conference and publishes a quarterly periodical, Fontes Artis Musicae.
The Australian Branch of IAML was established in 1970. Originally formed as an Australian and New Zealand Branch (IAML ANZ), the New Zealand division resolved to become an independent national branch in March 1982. The membership of the Australian Branch has remained consistently strong. It currently has about 2000 individual and institutional members, and meets for a national conference every two years. Members also meet in each state for discussion and debate on music collection issues. The Branch publishes Continuo, an annual national journal, and Intermezzo, a quarterly national newsletter.
