Scope and Content
Navigation notes from Cook's survey of Quebec: 1. "Descriptions for sailing in and out of ports with soundings, marks for particular rocks, shoals etc. with latitudes, longitudes, tides and variations of the compass", 1758 (holograph, 4p.). Describes places visited in Quebec including Flat Island, Bonaventure Island, Cape Gaspe and Cape des Rosiers. 2. Photocopy of "Directions for sailing from the harbour of Louisbourgh to Quebec..." (25p), original held by the U.K. Hydrographic Office.
Background
Explorer and navigator. In 1758, Cook crossed the Atlantic as master of the Pembroke and took part in the seige of Louisburg and the survey of the Saint Laurence River that led to the capture of Quebec.
