EVERYONES

WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED AUSTRALIAN VARIETY AND SHOW WORLD.

tho q—PMt Oflct, Sydn*y, tor Tr*B««lMl#n by Po«t Nawapapar)

Voi. No. 208

SYDNEY, FEBRUARY 27, 1924

Price SIXPENCE

HOYT’S DE LUXE George St. -Sydney’s Leading Cinema House

the thought behind

THE MOVE FOR BETTER PICTURES

Why did the “Move for Better Motion Pictures” come into being?

As an “opposition show”? As an advertising stunt? As lot of boom, boost and

ot her for nought or as sincere desire to see the motion picture idled out

Pother —tor nougni or .'

of the little backwater into which it seems to have drilled in the last few months.

We have said that nothing could be raised or uplifted without dignity. That holds

o’ood We do not believe that any amount of “Eight-hour Day” parading and circus stunting

could possibly influence those people who are not motion picture patrons into taking it up

as an amusement. Too long has the motion picture been “the pitchers, too long have the

motion picture theatres been “picture shows”—to sum it up, too long has this business been

without dignity and standing in the general public’s eyes. Pictures are popular there is

no doubt of that. It is up to the men in the industry to give it dignity and real standing.

The cry of the man who never goes to the motion picture entertainment is Unclean.

We took two pictures, typical of to-day’s magnificent standard, and presented them.

What was the result?

Every person of that 4000 went away more than satisfied and prepared to tell of their

satisfaction—to acknowledge that the motion picture has advanced and is now no longer

just an experiment, novelty—but one of the greatest factors for good in present-day public

life.

WE DEMONSTRATED OUR CONFIDENCE IN OUR PRODUCT TO THE

EXTENT OF PL\CING IT BEFORE THE HARDEST AND MOST

CRITICAL AUDIENCE THIS CITY COULD FIND.

The presentation cost lot of money and we cannot get, nor do we look for, any financial

return.

WE ARE SATISFIED IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WE HAVE STRUCK

TELLING. DIGNIFIED BLOW' FOR THE UPLIFT OF THE MOTION

PICTURE INDUSTRY. AND HAVE PROVED BEYOND ALL SHADOW OF

DOUBT TH\T IT IS QUALITY PRODUCT THAT IS GOING TO RAISE

THE STANDARD OF THE MOTION PICTITIE.

First National has the Quality Product. The confidence of exhibitors it proves that.

FIRST NATIONAL FIRST
