ART. I.—ON FEMALE EDUCATION.  

**■ Forsake her not and she shall preserve thee,  

Love her and she shall keep thee,  

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee  

46 ELL—my good fellow—so you would  

strain every nerve to benefit my boys, and neg-  

lect my little girls—would you Pray, my  

friend, which is of the greatest importance,  

good education for the sturdy young rogues, who  

can fight their own way in the world, or for those  

timid dependant creatures, to whose future well-  

fare fond parent cannot but look forward with  

the utmost anxiety?’'—Thus were we accosted  

the other day, and taking shame to ourselves for  

our indifference, we hastened home, and concocted  

the following observations.  

Murray in the 2d. number of his Austral  

Asiatic Review in his leading article “ Woman,"  

makes these remarks—“ as far as can be at pre-  

sent judged the native (as they are called)”  

(that is, the Austral-Asiatic) “ females have dis-  

played capabilities, if properly cultivated, in which  

the whole of the good qualities of their ancestrial  

land are included and comprehended. Nothing  

appears to us to be wanting to render the Austral-
