Autobiographical account of life in Mexico (1825-31), Scotland and England (1831-35), and New South Wales (1836-40), with brief notes on his later life (1840-67). The Australian section (ff.177-216) describes the formation of Willis, Macintyre & Co. in 1835, his voyage to Sydney on the Auriga (Capt. Chalmers) in 1835-36, impressions of Sydney, Sydney merchant houses, relations with A. Willis, dissolution of company in 1837, travels in Australia, Sydney Subscription Library, researches on Australia, fatal boating accident in Sydney Harbour in 1838, visit to Van Diemen's Land, bushfires, and voyage to England on Kinnear in 1840.

Manuscript by J.J. Macintyre entitled The physical and historical geography of Australia. Includes sections on Australian aboriginals, physical geography, foundation of N.S.W., land and labour, convicts, revenue, value of land in Sydney, land sales, land grants to Australian Agricultural Company. There is also a letter from Macintyre to Joseph Hume dedicating to him the two volumes. (printed)

Refers to growth of Melbourne, effect of gold rushes, heterogeneity of migrants, Roman Catholic Church in Melbourne, Argus, botanical gardens, travels in Victoria, Bishop J. Goold, State support for religion. Includes prospectus of Catholic Tribune, Melbourne, 18 June 1853.

Continuation of Walks on deck and rambles on shore during a voyage of circumnavigation of the globe. Account of visit to Sydney July-August 1853, voyage from Sydney to Valparaiso on S.S. Sophie and travels in Chile, August-November 1853. Refers to changes in Sydney since 1840, meeting with Sir Charles Fitzroy, general observations on Australian colonies, effect of topography and climate on growth of population, land regulations, history of settlements, birds of South Pacific, stars of southern hemisphere.
